Review of "Food, Energy and Society"
27 August 1997This review of Food, Energy and Society, edited by David and Marcia Pimentel is far from done. It's only already here at all, because I mention the book in my discussion of hydrogen However,
- The book contains many useful facts and tables.
- It accounts for the energy cost of everything but rarely includes
estimates of human labor costs. Labor costs are much more important.
- While its articles mention nuclear energy in many places and
these references don't dismiss it, nuclear energy is ignored in
the summary chapter. The recommendations for massive efforts to
use less energy are therefore unsupported.
- Certain other problems of sustainability seem exaggerated - details
later.
